ALLSTATE: Florida files complaint
Written on February 21, 2008
Florida’s insurance regulator filed a formal complaint to stop Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate Corp., the largest publicly traded U.S. home and auto insurer, from selling new policies in the state amid a probe into price and claims fixing.
Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty wants to halt Allstate’s policy sales, arguing the insurer failed to provide documents his office is seeking as part of his investigation payday loans in one hour. McCarty temporarily blocked Allstate from selling policies with an emergency order in January, and Tuesday’s "non-emergency" filing is the next step. It requires a hearing by an administrative law judge.
