Post-Dispatch cuts 39 jobs in circulation, classified

Written on May 23, 2009

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch eliminated 39 jobs today, moving the circulation functions to two other properties owned by Lee Enterprises.

Thirty-six of the jobs cut were in circulation; three came from the classified department.

"This workforce reduction is necessary and difficult for everyone," said Kevin Mowbray, publisher of the Post-Dispatch.

The Times, a Lee newspaper in Munster, Ind., with a regional call center, will handle the Post-Dispatch call center function individual health insurance. STL Distribution Services in St. Louis will take on the distribution function. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lee, with clients including the Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily, The Financial Times and the Post-Dispatch.
