Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what personal data FinanceInTime collects when you use our website or subscribe to our newsletter, why we collect it and what rights you have. We collect as little personal data as we can. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller of your personal data is:

[FinanceInTime legal entity name]
[Registered address]
[Country]
Email: [privacy contact email, e.g. privacy@financeintime.com]

[If a data protection officer has been appointed, give their contact details here.]

[If required, name the representative in the EU and/or the UK.]

What we collect and why

When you read our website

Our website runs on Cloudflare's network. To deliver pages and protect the site from attacks and abuse, Cloudflare processes technical information for every request, including your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser's user agent and the referring page. We use limited request logs to run, debug and secure the website.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interests in operating a secure and reliable website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR / UK GDPR).
  • Retention: our request logs are kept for [retention period, e.g. up to 7 days] and then deleted automatically. Cloudflare may keep some security data for longer under its own policies.

We do not use cookies to track readers. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies (for example to tell people from bots); these are not used for advertising or to build a profile of you.

Your theme preference

If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is stored in your browser's local storage on your device (under the key fit-theme). It is never sent to us, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Newsletter

If you sign up for our newsletter, we store your email address, the date you signed up and the status of your subscription.

  • Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by writing to us.
  • Retention: until you unsubscribe. After that, we keep only the record needed to make sure we do not email you again, for [retention period, e.g. 12 months], and then delete it.
  • [Name the email service provider once one is used to send the newsletter.]

When you contact us

If you email us, for example with a news tip, a correction request or a privacy request, we use your email address, your name if you give it and the content of your message to reply and to deal with your request.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interests in responding to readers and keeping our reporting accurate (Article 6(1)(f)), or our legal obligations when you exercise your data protection rights (Article 6(1)(c)).
  • Retention: for as long as needed to deal with your message, and up to [retention period, e.g. 3 years] afterwards in case of follow-up questions, unless the law requires longer.

Staff sign-in

Our editors sign in to our publishing system through Cloudflare Access, which sets a sign-in cookie for staff only. Readers are never asked to sign in.

Third-party services on our pages

Some parts of our pages are loaded from other companies' servers. When your browser loads them, these companies receive your IP address and browser information, and they process it under their own privacy policies:

  • TradingView provides the market data widgets on our pages, such as the ticker and the Live Markets charts. TradingView may set cookies or use local storage in your browser. See TradingView's privacy policy. Our typeface is served from our own servers, so loading it does not send your data to a third party.

The legal basis for loading these services is our legitimate interest in providing market data (Article 6(1)(f)). [Review whether consent is required for the TradingView widgets in your jurisdiction.]

Advertising and analytics

We do not currently show advertising and do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, tracking pixels or similar technologies. If this changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

AI tools and your data

We do not use readers' personal data to train AI models, and we do not enter readers' personal data into the AI tools that help our newsroom. See our AI policy.

Who processes your data for us

  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts our website, database and images and protects the site (as our processor).
  • [Email service provider, once one is used for the newsletter.]
  • [Email hosting provider for our @financeintime.com mailboxes.]

We share personal data with authorities only when the law requires it.

International transfers

Our service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by an adequacy decision (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the UK Extension to it, for certified companies) or by standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK authorities. [Confirm the safeguards in each provider's data processing agreement.]

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
  • rectify inaccurate data;
  • erase your data;
  • restrict how we use your data;
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
  • data portability, for data you gave us with your consent;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing that took place before.

To exercise any of these rights, write to [privacy contact email, e.g. privacy@financeintime.com]. We will reply within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the European Union, you can contact your national data protection authority. [Name our lead supervisory authority, if any.] We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

Children

Our website is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. If we make significant changes that affect newsletter subscribers, we will tell them by email.
