Legora, a legal AI company founded in 2023 that made its announcement from New York and Stockholm, raised a $550 million Series E at an $8.8 billion post-money valuation and said its annual recurring revenue (ARR) now stands at more than $200 million, according to its announcement on October 21.

How it started

The company said it was founded in 2023 and launched its platform in October 2024. The release describes Legora as "the agentic operating system for legal professionals". Max Junestrand is CEO and co-founder. The company announcements reviewed for this article do not describe the founders' earlier careers or the first customers, so this article does not either.

Legora opened its first US office in New York in March 2025, according to the company's March 2026 funding announcement. In the Series E release, the company said that in the United States, now its largest market by revenue, more than half of the AmLaw 50 are customers.

How it grew

The company's own figures describe the pace. "Legora went from $1 million to $100 million in ARR in less than 18 months, faster than any other enterprise software company selling through a direct sales team, and the next $100 million took less than six months," the release said. That comparison is the company's own claim, and it is not independently verified.

In March, Legora announced a $550 million Series D at a $5.55 billion valuation, led by Accel, to expand across the United States. At the time it said it had grown from 40 to 400 team members over the past year and supported tens of thousands of lawyers each day across 800 customers in more than 50 markets.

The Series E release gives the current scale: more than 1,000 employees across 18 offices, and use by more than 140,000 legal professionals at more than 2,400 law firms and in-house legal teams in over 80 markets. It also said in-house legal teams, "only a small fraction of Legora's customer base a year ago, made up more than 40% of new customers in the third quarter."

Atreides Management led the new round. New investors include Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Glade Brook Capital Partners and J.P Morgan, and the company said every major existing investor is participating, among them Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Insight Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital.

TechCrunch reported that the round came a month after competitor Harvey announced a $550 million raise at a $15.5 billion valuation, and that Legora had said in April its ARR had reached $100 million.

What the founders say

"The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early," Junestrand said in the release. "We chose investors who share our long-term view and know what it takes to build a lasting company."

David Eckstein, Legora's chief financial officer, said in the release: "We have passed $200 million in ARR, and we want every dollar of it to be a durable one. That means healthy gross margins, high retention, and a cost structure that gets stronger as we scale."

In March, Junestrand said in the Series D announcement: "Over the past year, the pace of adoption in the U.S. has exceeded our expectations."

What's next

Legora said the capital will fund expansion in North America, where it has offices in New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Toronto and Mexico City, as well as in its markets across Europe and Asia-Pacific. It said it will also deepen investment in Legora aOS, its agentic operating system, with new products including agentic intake, horizon scanning and legal research.

The company's release says its previous round valued it at $5.6 billion; the Series E valuation is 57% higher (computed: 8.8 / 5.6 - 1). The release does not say how much of the round is new capital versus secondary share sales.
